Hi, I’m Katy... esthetician, registered nurse, lifelong student of skin, and the woman behind Skin Science by Katy.
I’ve spent more than two decades learning about skin, anatomy, medicine, aesthetics, and the aging process.
And somehow, the more I learn, the more fascinated I become.
MY STORY
SKIN WAS ALWAYS THE PLAN
My passion for aesthetics began more than 20 years ago when I first entered esthetics school.
From the beginning, I was fascinated by the science behind skin. I loved understanding why skin behaved the way it did, how different treatments affected it, and how much the right care could change not only someone’s complexion- but how they felt.
I knew I had found what I was meant to do.
I eventually spent nearly a decade working as an esthetician in plastic surgery. That experience gave me an incredible foundation in skin health and aesthetics, but it also made me curious.
I wanted to understand more.
More anatomy. More medicine. More about the body as a whole.
So I went back to school.
FROM ESTHETICS TO NURSING
I NEVER WANTED TO STOP AT THE SURFACE
I pursued my bachelor’s degree in nursing with the goal of becoming an aesthetic nurse who could combine advanced clinical knowledge with the years of hands-on skin experience I already had.
After becoming a registered nurse, I continued building my aesthetic practice while intentionally gaining experience in traditional medicine.
I spent two years working in critical care within Houston’s county hospital system and another two years in the operating room.
Those years shaped the provider I am today.
They strengthened my clinical judgment, expanded my understanding of patient care, and reminded me again and again that what I really love about this work is taking care of people.
ALWAYS LEARNING
THE MORE I KNOW, THE BETTER I CAN CARE FOR YOU.
Eventually, my love of learning brought me back to graduate school so I could continue advancing my medical education.
And apparently, I’m one of those people who genuinely loves school as an adult.
The more I learn about anatomy, medicine, skin health, and the aging process, the more passionate I become about what I do.
Aesthetic medicine is constantly evolving, and I believe my patients deserve a provider who evolves with it.
When I'm not taking care of your skin...
You can usually find me riding my bike through Eleanor Tinsley Park or settling into one of my favorite cafés in Montrose.
But my favorite adventures are the ones I share with my daughter.
Work is a huge part of who I am- and I genuinely love it- but being her mom will always be my favorite role.
